1And the word of the LORD came to Jeremiah a second time, while he was still confined in the courtyard of the guard, saying:2Thus says the LORD: "The LORD makes it, the LORD forms it to prepare it, the LORD his name."3Call to me and I will answer you, and I will tell you great things and fortresses you have not known.4For thus says the LORD God of Israel concerning the houses of this city and concerning the houses of the kings of Judah—the ones being torn down to the siege ramps and to the sword.5coming to fight against the Chaldeans and to fill them with the carcasses of the men whom I struck in my anger and in my wrath and from whom I hid my face from this city on account of all their evil.6Behold, I will bring to her length of days and healing, and I will heal them, and I will reveal to them supplication of peace and truth.7And I will restore the fortunes of Judah and the fortunes of Israel, and I will build them as at the first.8And I will purify them from all their iniquity that they sinned against me, and I will forgive all their iniquities that they sinned against me and that they rebelled against me.9And it will be to me for a name of joy, for praise, and for glory to all the nations of the earth, who will hear all the good that I am doing for them, and they will fear and tremble over all the good and over all the peace that I am doing for it.10Thus says the LORD: Yet it will be heard in this place of which you are saying, "It is desolate; there is no human and there is no beast," in the cities of Judah and in the streets of Jerusalem the desolate ones—there is no human and there is no inhabitant and there is no beast.11the voice of rejoicing and the voice of joy, the voice of bridegroom and the voice of bride, the voice of those saying, "Give thanks to the LORD of hosts, for the LORD is good, for his steadfast love endures forever"—those who are coming with thanksgiving to the house of the LORD—for I will restore the fortunes of the land as at the first," says the LORD.12Thus says the LORD of Hosts: Still it will be in this place—the sword—from absence of humanity and beast, and in all its cities: a pasture of shepherds, lying-places of sheep.13in the cities of the hill country, in the cities of the Shephelah, and in the cities of the Negev, in the land of Benjamin, in the surroundings of Jerusalem, and in the cities of Judah, until they pass over the flock by the hand of the one counting, says the LORD.14Behold, days are coming, says the LORD, and I will establish the good word that I spoke to the house of Israel and concerning the house of Judah.15In those days and at that time I will cause a branch of righteousness to sprout for David, and he will do justice and righteousness in the earth.16In those days Judah will be saved and Jerusalem will dwell securely, and this is what he will call her: "The LORD is our righteousness."17For thus says the LORD: There shall not be cut off for David a man sitting on the throne of the house of Israel.18And for the priests the Levites there shall not be cut off a man from before me, one offering up a burnt offering and burning a grain offering and making a sacrifice all the days.19And the word of the LORD came to Jeremiah, saying.20Thus says the LORD: If you can break my covenant of the day and my covenant of the night so that there is no day and night in their season,21Also I will break my covenant with David my servant from there being to him a son reigning on his throne, and with the Levites the priests, my servants.22As the host of the heavens cannot be numbered and the sand of the sea cannot be measured, so I will multiply the seed of David my servant and the Levites my ministers.23And the word of the LORD came to Jeremiah, saying:24Have you not seen what this people have spoken, saying, "The two families that the LORD chose—he has rejected them—and they despise my people from still being a nation before them"?25Thus says the LORD: If not my covenant of day and night, statutes of the heavens and earth, I have not set.26Also the seed of Jacob and David my servant—I will not reject, taking from his seed rulers over the seed of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. For I will restore their captivity and have compassion on them.
